Ashtanga Yoga

I generally teach the Primary Series and occasionally introduce some of the Intermediate Series. Ashtanga is quite a dynamic practice, moving with the breath, building the strength and agility of a Lion, well according to Sri Pattabhi Jois, and I would agree, with regular practice.
I fell in love with Ashtanga as it is a physically strong practice but at the same time it draws the yogi/yogini into the more philosophical side of the practice, introducing the yogi to the 8 limbs of yoga without having to open a book.
It is a moving meditation, using the Ujjayi breath, Bandhas (energy locks) and Drishti (focus, gaze). This allows the student to tune inwards and detach from the senses, from the business of the mind….. to find stillness, Nirodah… moments of bliss.

Funky Flow

Funky Flow was thrust upon me…. Thank goodness.
I am forever telling students that I didn’t come up with the name (true story!) but it gave me free license to do whatever I wanted.
The class theme is generally one of fun, of letting go of any expectations of ourselves and going with the flow. We move to some funky tunes, we get warm, very warm and we play with some funky poses towards the end.

Vinyasa Flow

Vinyasa, often described as movement with breath or movement with intent.
I had a wonderful teacher who often said, relax, there is nowhere to get to, no destination.
The Vinyasa practice is an opportunity to, yes, move with the breath, but more importantly to tune inward and focus and … go with the flow.
